Questions, a meter display the app can't read, or a country rule we should add? Write to [email protected]. Please include your iPhone model and the app version shown at the bottom of Setup.
When should I photograph the meter?
At the turn of each month is enough: one photo on the last or first day closes one month and opens the next. If you like, photograph before and after each charge; with a time-of-use tariff this lets the app split the kWh by the clock instead of an estimate.
The number was read wrongly
Tap one of the other numbers found on the photo, or type the right value before saving. Corrections after saving are added with a reason; the original value stays visible on the claim. Photos are clearest when the total kWh fills most of the frame and there is no glare on the display.
Which method should I choose?
- Germany: the Strompreispauschale (measured kWh × a yearly rate, €0.34 in 2026) or your actual tariff. The choice applies to the whole calendar year and is fixed once you create that year's first claim. Setup → Country & method compares both for the year so far.
- United Kingdom: the actual cost of the electricity, or business miles × HMRC's Advisory Electricity Rate if your employer pays by the mile.
- Netherlands: your integral cost price per kWh (fixed and variable costs, minus ERE income), or a fixed price agreed with your employer.
- France and other countries: measured kWh × your tariff, including off-peak bands.
Your employer's policy decides; ChargeClaim documents and calculates.
What makes the evidence trustworthy?
Each reading is stored with its photo and capture time and sealed with a SHA-256 hash linked to the entry before it. Changing, removing or back-dating an entry breaks the seal, and Setup → Evidence check shows it. The claim PDF lists every reading, correction and photo.
Charger connections
go-e and Tesla Wall Connector readings are taken from the charger's energy counter; Zaptec claims can use the charger's own session list, signed where the charger supports it. Octopus customers can import their prices with the tariff code from the Octopus app. Other chargers: photograph the display or the charger app.
